Bright Spring Strategy Consulting is accepting resumes for global health consultants with 7-10 years of experience for an interim program officer role focused on neglected infectious diseases with a large family foundation based in Seattle, WA. The role is six months and begins in mid-September.
Responsibilities
The Consultant will partner with the related Deputy Director in Program Advocacy and the Neglected Infectious Diseases (NID) team to refine and execute an advocacy strategy, forge new partnerships, and develop grants in support of that strategy. This consultant will be based in Seattle, WA. The goal of the NID strategy is to reduce the burden of neglected infectious diseases on the world’s poorest people through targeted and effective control, elimination, and eradication efforts. The strategy focuses on eight high opportunity diseases: Japanese encephalitis, human papillomavirus, visceral leshmaniasis, guinea worm, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, dengue and human African trypanosomiasis. In addition, the team invests in research for new tools or strategies to address six other diseases, including: ascaris, trichuris, hookworm, schistosomiasis, Buruli ulcer, and Chagas.
Key responsibilities for the position include:
- Support the development and management of a portfolio of grants, including developing investment objectives, defining key outcomes and milestones and ensuring appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems are established to produce robust evaluation of outcomes.
- Identify opportunities for the development of strategic alliances to further the policy and advocacy objectives of the foundation’s Neglected Infectious Diseases strategy.
- Partner with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants by conducting site visits, providing technical guidance, convening meetings of key stakeholders, and evaluating performance objectives.
- Write and produce informative briefings, reports, email updates and other materials on key policy and advocacy issues of the Neglected Infectious Diseases portfolio for foundation leadership.
- As needed, participate in external meetings related to key issues in the Neglected Infectious Diseases portfolio.
- Participate in Program Advocacy & Communications, Global Policy & Advocacy, and Neglected Infectious Diseases team meetings.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience, which includes experience in a role requiring the application of research and writing skills to enhance decision-making and strategy development.
- An advanced degree, preferably in international relations, public policy, international development or a related field, with a background in public health.
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of advocacy and communications efforts to increase awareness of health/development issues and build political/financial support for health and development goals in the developing world.
- ° Experience in the design, management and collaborative execution of global health advocacy strategies and programs.
- Work experience in a fast-paced environment with ability to juggle multiple and competing demands and establish priorities, while providing continual attention to detail.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, in positions requiring communication with a broad and diverse audience on a range of complex and
- technical issues.
- Experience in a role requiring collaboration across teams within an organization
- Ability to work with flexibility, entrepreneurship, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.
- Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office products
- High standard of personal integrity.
